Summer Season ...

Yesterday, I spent my last Monday 'off' ... as this week I begin the summer schedule. I hope to get the time to update the 'Showtimes' page this week.

This year, I will be at Barefoot Landing Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 7pm till 11pm. As usual, I will try to arrive early and stay late depending on the weather.

And then I will be running a magic booth at the North Myrtle Beach Flea Market Saturday and Sunday from 10am till 2pm. I have just received my sales tax license so everything is legit and I am very excited about this!

I also expect to finish filming the Floating Street Lamp, and have narrowed down my search for a floating building to two. I may make an attempt to float one of them on Thursday, no promises.

More Floating Street Lamp...

My Floating Street Lamp has stirred a good conversation at The Buskers Cafe, and I have received lots of positive and encouraging feedback. This is all good, as I really wasn't sure if my illusion would work and now I am pretty sure it will.

I wanted to post a couple more pics people have requested, these should give you a better idea as to what is going on:

In the opening scene, you see the entire street lamp from top to bottom. The camera will ultimately be positioned on the hood of my truck facing the base of the street lamp:

Here is a closeup of the base itself, you will notice that it is stained with rust. The lamp pole is pretty much nothing more than rust at this stage, as it has been standing in place for a long time now.

And here is another shot of the actual levitation. I remember several years ago I started asking magicians how I could accomplish this and was told it was not possible. Now I am listening to comments like "beautiful" ... "that's thinking outside the box" ... "creative" ... "awesome" ... if the video turns out this good, it will be a winner.

We have now processed the raw footage and Dana says she has what she needs to do a video, but she is also reserving the right to change her mind (which is odd for her to say, since as a woman she always has that right). This is good because I would like to start working on my next big illusion: I'm going to make a tree vanish!

Floating Street Lamps - say what ?!?

This is a street lamp ... it is over 60 feet tall and has survived dozens of tropical storms including a direct hit from a category five Hurricane Hugo. It is made of metal and bolted to a solid concrete base. When they erected this street lamp, it was with the intention that nobody would ever move it.

Ladies and gentlemen ... today I moved that street lamp!

The street lamp actually levitated several inches up off the ground. This will be presented as a YouTube video later this summer. This will be what I call a 'medium sized illusion', much like my Snowstorm in Myrtle Beach video. The final video will have even more levitations in it ... perhaps even a building!

For now, here is a snapshot to prove my words ... this is an actual screen capture from the live camcorder footage, this is not a camera trick:

YouWhat?

I don't know whats up with the comments on YouTube, at first I thought it was just my videos ... but as I've been watching YouTube, I realize it is basically a bunch of unsupervised children leaving comments. Pure hatred and f-bombs scattered with the n-word - why doesn't Al Sharpton get involved here?

I try hard to keep mine under wraps, and have been making my comment pages "by approval only". It is indeed a pain going through them and rejecting the bulk of them - I really don't approve of people letting their children run wild and wish they would quit pushing the burden of raising their children on me.

One thing people seem to feel it is ok to do on YouTube is post exposure ... which in my view it is not. Exposure ruins the trick for everyone else ... how would you like to go to the movie theater, and have some punk kid standing outside revealing the plot to the movie you want to watch? Not kewl - not kewl at all.

I imagine they want to feel superior to others, by boasting their knowledge. They really just make themselves look stupid - especially when they are wrong. So in response to several (now deleted) comments on my Floating Cigarette video, I have posted another clip of me performing the illusion ... only this time, it is being done for live audiences street style!

That's right, there is no camera trick ... there is no special lighting ... there are no assistants on the sides controlling the cigarette, it is not hanging from my mouth by a string ... it is an illusion that I have performed thousands and thousands of times for live audiences at places like 2001 Nightlife, Jamica Joe's, Coconut's Comedy Club, Barefoot Landing, and many many many more.

Anyone that tells you how it is done is most likely wrong, because if they could really do something like this ... they wouldn't share the secret with anyone.

PS: Yes I could do it with real cigarettes, but I haven't done it with a real cigarette since I quit smoking. Smoking is a bad habit, I don't smoke and neither should you.
