Monkeying Around
I look out from my pitch ... there is nobody in front of me. I look to the left, the spray paint artist is there doing his thing - surprisingly, he doesn't have any crowd watching him. So I look to the right, and even more surprisingly there is absolutely nobody looking at the tigers! Thats right, it is so slow here that even real live man eating tigers can't draw a crowd! So instead of standing around looking stupid, I decided to hit the TIGERS display and play with the monkey ... Miami surfers may recognize her from a few TV commercials. She is a true performer, she falls from her monkey bars down to the ground landing on her head ... on purpose ... just because she likes the reaction. And if she doesn't get enough attention, she'll climb the tree (to her trainers dismay) just to get people to look at her. I can totally relate to her antics! JoeJoe
I <3 NY
It is spring break, Barefoot Landing has fireworks scheduled, and there are lots of New Yorkers in town. This means it is going to be a great night! I arrive on time, and start to setup my stuff ... ... when out of the blue from no where this massive dark cloud arrives ... on the phone with my girlfriend, I explain that we hafta make a mad dash to the truck because it is about to turn into Kansas here! I grabbed anything I didn't want to get wet and took off, but the rain caught me. I was drenched from head to toe!
But I wasn't about to let a thunderstorm end the night; I laid low for an hour till it passed, then hit the boards to try again ... and sure enough, it was STILL a great night! Even with the rain, it was still the best night of the spring season so far - both crowd wise and tip wise! See, everyone in Myrtle Beach loves it when New Yorkers come to town, their cost of living is higher than ours thus they generally over tip. Who wouldn't love that!?! And as an added bonus, they love magic as well! Ya'all come back now ... ya'hear?

MAGIC SHOWS
This was orginally an orange and white stripped "caution" sign ... a coat of paint and some lettering has magically transformed it into a most awesome "MAGIC SHOWS" sign! You may also notice the new rolling cart ... I'm not sure if I will keep using that or not, its real nice being able to roll everything to my pitch, but at the same time its a pain in the rump loading it into the truck. I'll use it a while as I continue to think up new ideas. JoeJoe
Spring Fireworks
Today was the official spring kick-off with Barefoot Landing hosting fireworks. Early on, there were a few people around that reminded me of all the reasons I hate doing this. But as the night went on, there were more than enough people there that reminded me of why I love doing what I do. I've tried to stop street performing many times in my life, but for some reason the wonderful people I meet keep bringing me back ... its a hard job to walk away from. So we tested a new trick tonight, a new crowd puller. I was totally shocked and amazed at just how well it worked - the only downside is the wind made it difficult to work. I'm sure there are going to be a lot of nights I won't be able to use this new baby, but from what I have seen the nights I will be able to use it are going to be some of the easiest crowds I've ever assembled. I haven't been filming this season, the video equipment is clumbersome to lug around ... I expect to do a lot less filming this season. But I do have a camera phone on order, when I get it I'll show off my new "MAGIC SHOWS" sign. Till then... JoeJoe
Spring 2006 Season is Here!
The weather is warming up, the people are coming out, and the Amazing JoeJoe is back! Back at Barefoot Landing with balloons, magic, comedy, and lots of fun! During the spring season, I'll be setting up next to the T.I.G.E.R.S. display at the Lily Pond. I may even try some wandering magic, not sure yet ... we'll play it by ear. At some point, I will be experimenting with a new illusion ... this will serve as a climax to my Disappearing JoeJoe routine. Because it is larger than most of my street magic, I am not sure if it will be a regular feature of the act ... but rather something I bring out from time to time on slower nights. Again, we're playing it by ear here. See You There! JoeJoe
